Cocoa house was once the tallest building in tropical Africa. It is located in the city of Ibadan, the capital of Oyo state in Nigeria. The 105 metres building , completed in 1965, was built from proceeds from commodities (e.g., Cocoa, Rubber, Timber and so on) of the then western state of Nigeria. Cocoa house is a property of Odu’a investment company limited and was formally called Ile Awon Agbe (House Of Farmers). The 26 storey building caught fire on the 9th of Jan., 1985 and was rehabilitated in August 1992 for commercial use. It served as the first skyscraper in Nigeria. cocoa house2
